Heidi O’Neill revamps Lululemon C-suite as new CEO

Lululemon is undergoing a significant reorganisation under its new CEO, Heidi O’Neill, who has been at the helm for just a month. The shake-up involves appointing a product chief and a chief operating officer, with plans to fill three additional executive roles as part of efforts to refine company operations and innovate product offerings.

Leadership Changes and New Appointments

Effective from October 26, Maggie Gauger, previously CEO of Athleta, will join Lululemon as chief product officer. Similarly, Joseph Godsey, who held the position of Chief Growth Officer at Walmart Canada, has been named chief operating officer. These roles are newly established within the company’s structure. Meanwhile, Lululemon’s current Chief Supply Chain Officer Ted Dagnese and Chief Brand and Product Activation Officer Nikki Neuburger will exit the company on November 6.

Ongoing Search for Key Roles

The athletic retailer is actively recruiting for three critical C-suite positions: chief brand officer, chief communications officer, and chief technology officer. Each role is tailored to enhance key areas within the company, including brand experience, global communications, and technology advancements such as cybersecurity and AI.

Continuity Amidst Change

While some roles within the C-suite are experiencing transitions, existing leaders like Chief Financial Officer Meghan Frank and Chief Commercial Officer André Maestrini will continue in their roles, having managed leadership duties as co-CEOs until Heidi O’Neill’s appointment. Frank will temporarily oversee brand and technology divisions until new appointments are in place. Shannon Higginson remains as the chief legal and compliance officer, with Susan Gelinas continuing as chief people and culture officer.

Objectives of the Restructuring

O’Neill’s restructuring aims to boost innovation, streamline processes, and sharpen product offerings. Her intent is to position design and product excellence at the core of Lululemon’s operations. Maggie Gauger’s role will involve guiding merchandising, product innovation, and materials science, drawing on her extensive Nike experience. Similarly, Joseph Godsey’s expertise is expected to improve product quality and business execution, contributing to a swift market introduction.

This reorganisation reflects a strategic pivot for Lululemon as it seeks to overcome recent struggles with product resonance in the market and to build a more competitive presence moving forward. The company emphasises the importance of aligned leadership to drive the strategy and actions that will maximise impact for customers, communities, and the business itself.
