Bit Reactor, the developer of the successful game Star Wars: Zero Company, is reinstating staff members who were previously furloughed due to unforeseen business challenges. This decision marks a significant effort by the studio to support its operations and continue the game’s success.
Staff Return in Motion
In an official statement released today, Greg Foertsch, Bit Reactor’s CEO, announced that the studio has begun the process of bringing back more employees. “Reintegrating our team is a crucial move in maintaining support for Zero Company,” he noted. He acknowledged the difficulty of furloughing team members just before the game’s release, but emphasised the necessity of the decision in light of unexpected financial challenges.
Foertsch extended his appreciation to the team’s contributions and expressed pride in their achievements, while also thanking the game’s fans for their support and enthusiasm.
Impact of Financial Hurdles
Just weeks prior to the launch of their celebrated tactics game, Bit Reactor faced financial constraints reportedly caused by a legal dispute between Foertsch and co-founder Alison Kelly. This conflict resulted in the furloughing of roughly 80% of the workforce, putting most employees on unpaid leave.
While Bit Reactor hasn’t disclosed the precise number of returning employees, sources indicate that over half of the workforce has resumed their roles, although many still await reinstatement.
Success amid Challenges
Despite these difficulties, Star Wars: Zero Company achieved impressive success, swiftly surpassing 1 million sales. Its gameplay, reminiscent of XCOM, has resonated with fans excited to explore a new galaxy.
