Paramount has named a new co-CEO as it prepares to finalise its colossal $110 billion merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. Ynon Kreiz, who previously led Mattel as chairman and CEO, will join forces with existing chairman and CEO David Ellison at Paramount. The merged entity aims to bolster its leadership structure and accelerate its growth strategy.
The leadership roles of Ellison and Kreiz will be distinct but collaborative. Ellison will primarily concentrate on the company’s overarching strategy and creative direction, bringing his expertise to areas such as talent management, strategic alliances, and capital deployment. Meanwhile, Kreiz will handle the daily operations and smoothing the transition of the newly combined businesses. The dual leadership will ensure joint reporting responsibilities across the integrated company.
Kreiz, who took the helm at Mattel in 2018, will officially start at Paramount on 5th October. Under his leadership at Mattel, the company successfully launched the popular Barbie film in collaboration with Warner Bros. Pictures, showcasing his ability to drive successful synergies between major studios.
In a related development, a judge has sanctioned Paramount’s just-announced settlement of a lawsuit involving several states that were obstructing the Warner Bros. Discovery deal, as reported by Reuters.
Concurrent with these changes, Cindy Holland, the chief of Paramount’s streaming division, has announced her resignation. Variety has reported that Casey Bloys, the head of HBO, is expected to assume control over both Paramount Plus and HBO, indicating further shifts in the company’s strategic direction.
