Live tourism has grown beyond just the events it comprises, prompting the industry to figure out new organisational strategies. Traditionally, travel businesses focus their operations around weather patterns, school holidays, and historical demand. However, live entertainment like concerts and sports events operates on a different schedule.
Rafat Ali, founder and CEO of Skift, highlighted that the demand for live tourism is often predetermined years in advance, driven by scheduled tours and major sports tournaments. This demand becomes evident to producers of live events long before the travel companies, which cater to these events with flights, accommodations, transport, and other services, are even aware.
The Live Tourism Summit examined how the industry could benefit from this foresight, potentially investing and planning around predictable demand surges centred on recurring live events.
