Revolve launches magazine as Cato shuts 120 stores

In a notable move to deepen customer engagement, Revolve, the fashion retailer, has launched its first-ever print and digital magazine, Revolve Magazine. The annual publication will feature a mix of fashion, beauty, culture, travel, and commerce, including curated styles and exclusive stories. This initiative is part of Revolve’s strategy to engage consumers in a more meaningful way amidst an increasingly digital and short-form communication landscape.

Revolve’s New Venture Into Print Media

Announced on Tuesday, Revolve Magazine will debut with an inaugural issue that features multiple covers starring Kendall Jenner, Teyana Taylor, and Alex Consani. Michael Mente, co-founder and co-CEO of Revolve Group, emphasised that the magazine serves as a platform to express the company’s unique energy and culture, aiming to connect with customers through in-depth narratives. Future editions are expected to explore varied themes such as music, sports, and cultural discussions.

Cato to Shut Down Significant Number of Outlets

On the flip side, Cato Corporation, a specialty apparel retailer, unveiled its plans to close 120 stores within the year after identifying underperformance. The retail firm anticipates that shutting these outlets during the third and fourth quarters will lead to roughly $1 million to $1.3 million in exit costs, yet the closures are aimed at enhancing future financial outcomes, notably by the fiscal year 2027. The decision was driven by the current economic climate affecting consumer spending, according to CEO John Cato.

Patagonia’s Voter Engagement Effort

Patagonia has actively engaged with 112,000 individuals to encourage voting, spending $11.2 million over just four days. With an eye on the 2024 presidential election, the company noted that millions of environmentalists did not vote previously. As part of its voter initiative, Patagonia offered a $100 credit to those who created a comprehensive voting plan involving three others, continuing its tradition of political activism since 1978.

Television Purchases Show Decline

Consumer interest in buying televisions has seen a drop, as highlighted by the recent Conference Board’s consumer confidence report. In a note released on Wednesday, Jefferies analysts pointed out that only 9% of surveyed consumers plan to purchase a TV in the next half-year—a nearly 3 percentage point decrease from February. This deflated interest has been attributed to economic pressures, marking a significant decline since earlier tariffs were introduced in 2025. Although Best Buy maintains its exclusive retailer status for advanced RGB LED TVs, analyst projections suggest that even innovations may struggle due to the current purchasing sentiment.
