Twitch Introduces Opt-Out Feature for AI Training
Twitch streamers now have the option to exclude their content from being utilised in the training of Amazon’s generative AI models. This new setting ensures that personal broadcasts, recorded videos, clips, stream chats, as well as images and text from their channels, are not included in the future training of AI models aimed at generating or synthesising various types of media.
Preserving AI-Supported Features
While streamers can opt out of contributing to generative AI training, it won’t affect other AI-enhanced functionalities like captions and safety tools. However, if a user participates in chats on another channel, the host’s opt-out status will determine whether that data is used in AI model training.
Usage and Privacy Settings
The opt-out option, named “Training for Generative AI,” is located under the Security and Privacy section in a user’s Twitch settings. It appears to be turned on by default, although clarification from Amazon has been sought on this setup.
Amazon’s official description of this feature explains that disabling it prevents content from being used specifically for generative AI model training. Nevertheless, it does not restrict Twitch and Amazon from employing user content for other purposes, as outlined in their Privacy Notice. These purposes include enhancements to streaming tools, sponsorship campaign assistance, and community safety measures.
