Uber’s expansion strategy is taking on a new dimension as the company ventures into the hotel and short-term rental market. Speaking at the Skift Global Forum in New York City, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi underscored the company’s plans to integrate hotel bookings through its app, suggesting that this move aligns with broader trends in the travel industry. Khosrowshahi also hinted that flights might be part of Uber’s future offerings.
The ride-hailing giant, well-established in the rideshare market, has widened its focus to enhance the travel experience by introducing hotel bookings. This initiative was launched in April when Uber partnered with Expedia, enabling users to book hotels directly via the Uber app. Khosrowshahi described the inclusion of hotel bookings as a calculated investment in response to evolving travel dynamics.
Emphasising Uber’s global reach, Khosrowshahi noted that the company operates in more than 70 countries and facilitates services in over 100 countries. “The traveller comes to us,” he stated, highlighting Uber’s strategic position and its potential to become a more comprehensive travel services platform.
